The Common Processing and Forming Technologies of Aluminium Heatsink

The rapid development of electronic products has brought great convenience to our lives, but at the same time, we are facing new challenges, that is, electronic products will face severe heat dissipation problems when they operate. In order to help with electronic products heat dissipation and maintain the smooth operation of electronic products, it is very important to choose a good heatsink, such as extrusion heatsinks, cast heatsinks, VC heatsinks and so on. 1. The Aluminum Extrusion Technology

The aluminum extrusion technology mainly means heating the aluminum ingot to a temperature of about 520-540 ° C. Under high pressure, the aluminum liquid flows through the mold with the groove to make the shape of the heatsink. Aluminum extrusion technology is relatively easy to implement, and the equipment cost is relatively low, which has made it widely used in the low-end market in previous years. The commonly used aluminum extrusion material is aa6063, which has good thermal conductivity and processability. However, due to the limitation of the material itself, the ratio of the thickness and the length of the heatsink cannot exceed 1:18, so it is difficult to increase the heat dissipation area in a limited space. Therefore, the heat dissipation effect of the aluminum extruded heatsink is relatively poor, and it is difficult to use for today's high-frequency cpu.

2. The Aluminum Die Casting Technology

In addition to aluminium extrusion technology, another process commonly used to manufacture heatsinks is aluminium die casting. By melting aluminium ingots into liquid state, filling them into metal models, using die casting machine directly to form heatsinks. The heatsinks can be made into a variety of three-dimensional shapes by die casting method, and the heatsinks can be made complex according to demand. The shape of the heatsink can also cooperate with the direction of fan and airflow to make the heatsink with diversion effect. What's more, it can make thin and compact fins to increase heat dissipation area, which is widely used because of its simple technology. The commonly used die-casting aluminium alloy is adc12. Because of its good formability, it is suitable for thin castings. However, because of its poor thermal conductivity, AA1070 aluminium is now used as die-casting material in China, which has good heat dissipation effect. 

3. Casting Procedure

In addition, the main process that may be used in the production of aluminium heatsink is melting and casting, and its main realization way is:

(1) Ingredients: According to the specific alloy grades that need to be produced, the amount of additions of various alloy components can be calculated, and various raw materials can be rationally matched.

(2) Melting: The raw materials are added into the smelting furnace according to the technological requirements, and the miscellaneous slag and gas in the melt are effectively removed by degassing and slag removal refining.

(3) Casting: Under certain casting conditions, melted liquid aluminium can be cooled and cast into round bars and aluminium profiles of various specifications through deep well casting system, and finally processed into aluminium heatsinks.

Compared with general metal thermal conductive materials, the use of aluminium alloys is not only exquisite in appearance and affordable in price, but also has strong thermal conductivity to meet the heat dissipation needs of various electronic products. Aluminum alloy with high purity makes the aluminium heatsink profile extremely resistant to high temperature and corrosion, so its service life is longer. Careful technology makes the aluminium heatsink more powerful in heat dissipation.
